We’re thrilled to invite you to a very special evening next month: a book release and giant book club centered around one of our all-time favorite novels, Maken by Gun-Britt Sundström, first published in Sweden in 1976.

Whether you’ve read it in Swedish, English, or French (or are discovering it for the first time), we’ll gather to celebrate this cult classic. Joining us are the French editor Claire Do Sêrro from Robert Laffont and the translator Anna Gibson, who will share a few words about the book’s journey to France.

Maken tells the story of wanting to be loved while also wanting to be alone. A dense and thoughtful novel, it explores sex, boredom, self-esteem, and the expectations we have of each other as lovers or friends. We promise wine and great conversation, and hopefully you’ll leave Belleville with a bigger heart and a richer perspective on the novel.
